Yes.

You need a simple CRM — but not the one a rep will pitch you.

What's really going on

You're calling people you found on LinkedIn and trying to remember what each one said. That's the whole job. The risk isn't your tool — it's that follow-ups slip because nothing tells you who to call back on Thursday. One person, one channel, one phone. This is a list-and-reminder problem, not a CRM problem.

What to do instead

  1. HubSpot Free CRM (free) — one contact record per lead, a notes field after every call, a "next action date" so the follow-up surfaces itself.
  2. Your phone's native call log + voice memos (free) — hit record after the call, dictate 20 seconds while it's fresh, paste it into the HubSpot note.
  3. Habit: end every call by typing the next step and a date. No next step, no next call. The note is worthless without it.

First action, 30 minutes: open HubSpot Free, import your LinkedIn list as contacts, and add a custom property called "Next touch date." Sort your view by that column. That's your call list tomorrow morning.

What you're being oversold

If anyone pointed you at Outreach, Salesloft, Apollo, or ZoomInfo — walk away. Those are for 20-person outbound teams running sequences at scale. Pipedrive's fine software but at solo volume a free tool does the same job. The cost of doing nothing isn't a number I'll invent for you; it's the three leads a week you forget to call back because they live in your head.

When to revisit this

When you hire a second caller, or when you're working more than ~50 active leads at once and the free tier feels cramped.

The part worth getting right

The real fork: are you running a list or a campaign? If it's a list — same 200 names, called once, noted, done — HubSpot Free is forever enough. If it's a campaign — new LinkedIn leads every week, multi-touch cadences, call-then-email-then-call — you'll outgrow notes inside a month and need real cadence logic, which changes the tool entirely. Pick wrong and you either pay for power you'll never use, or you rebuild your whole setup in 60 days.
