The verdict · Jul 7, 2026

No.

You don't need a CRM.

What's really going on

You're solo, selling courses, and every lead lands in one inbox: Instagram. At 50-200 DMs a month, the bottleneck isn't tracking — it's answering the same five questions fifty times and losing the warm ones in the scroll. A CRM won't fix that. Faster replies and a way to spot who's ready to buy will.

What to do instead

  1. Instagram Saved Replies (free, built in) — write 5 canned answers for your top questions (price, schedule, level, refunds, how to enrol). Tap once, send. Cuts your reply time in half tonight.
  2. A single Google Sheet (free) — columns: name, handle, date, course they asked about, replied?, paid? That's your CRM. At your volume, it's better than any tool.
  3. Make (free tier) — later, when it hurts, one scenario: new sale in your course platform → row added to the sheet + a follow-up reminder 7 days later.

Do this first: open Instagram, tap the message icon, then the gear, then Saved Replies. Write the one for "how much does the course cost?" now. Ten minutes.

What you're being oversold

Someone will tell you to buy Folk, Pipedrive, or a WhatsApp platform like Respond.io. All wrong for a solo teacher on one channel. Pipedrive is built for sales teams with a pipeline; you have a checkout. Respond.io is for multi-channel teams doing thousands of messages. Paying €15-50/month for a dashboard you'll open twice is the real cost — plus the weekend you spend setting it up instead of filming a class.

When to revisit this

When you hire a second person to answer DMs, or when you launch a high-ticket 1:1 offer where losing one lead stings.

The part worth getting right

The real question is what "lead" means for you. If most of those 200 DMs are "what's the price?" and they either buy or vanish, you need faster replies and a checkout link — no CRM, ever. But if a chunk are people circling a €300+ program for weeks, that's a nurture problem, and a sheet plus scheduled follow-ups will make you real money. One path is a scripting job. The other is a sales job. They look identical in your inbox right now.
